MESSAGES FOR "U" BIBLE STUDY
LESSON ONE: Message One
“Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth—to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people— saying with a loud voice, “Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water.” Revelation 14:6-7
The writer of these verses was John, known throughout the Bible as a disciple, apostle, prophet, revelator, and more. He was exiled to a Greek Island called Patmos. There he began to receive powerful visions from God concerning the last days of earth and the Second Coming of Christ.
When John begins
writing, he says, “I saw.”
Here, he is beginning a new
vision for he had already
experienced many prior to this one. As John begins to see a new scene, he writes that he sees another “angel.” The word “angel” here is symbolic as it means God’s people who are engaged in the task of proclaiming the everlasting gospel. Heavenly angels assist God’s people in proclaiming the everlasting gospel but it is God’s people that are tasked with this great work as God’s messengers.
As God’s people are going about proclaiming the everlasting gospel, the symbolism “angels flying in the “midst of heaven,” indicates the gospel is going out in a worldwide nature as it grows and develops until it is brought to the sight and hearing of all mankind.
We find a description of the “everlasting gospel,” recorded in 2 Corinthians 4:4, “whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.” Here, the Apostle Paul is sharing that the gospel will enlighten every sincere and open mind. Some choose to keep a closed mind and refuse to listen even while many are enlightened all around them.
Paul again, in 1 Timothy 1:11 describes the gospel by acknowledging the glory of God and that men and women can now behold in Jesus Christ the solicitous concern of our loving heavenly Father. Our Father in heaven has not left anything undone in the program of revealing His love and mercy to us fallen men and women. There is only one gospel that will save and it will continue as long as there are men and women to be saved. There never will be another gospel. John sees in vision that this gospel which is the good tidings will be proclaimed throughout the world. This extremely important message will be proclaimed so that all may hear.
The message will say to all, “Come to God with reverence, awe, absolute loyalty, and a full surrender to His will.” While this message is going out, John the Revelator sees the people of the world worshipping other gods, gods of materialism, pleasure, and of their own devisings. Giving glory to the God of Heaven and Earth means to honor, praise, and give homage to Him and Him alone.
The message of the judgment is accompanied by an appeal and a warning that reveal that the day of salvation has not passed. “Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him since He always lives to make intercession for them. Hebrews 7:25 Jesus is in the Most Holy Place right now ready and willing to hear our prayers. Men and women may still turn to God for "he who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty."
(Read the precious promise in Psalm 91.)
Jesus is in heaven now as He has begun the work of His pre-Advent judgment.(Bibleinfo.com) Advent means the coming of Jesus. During this time Jesus is inspiring and empowering His people throughout the whole world to begin preaching these messages from His word, especially the messages in Revelation 14.
All will have to choose between the true God and false gods. This message of the first angel is designed to prepare people to make the proper choice and to stand firm in the time of crisis.
Because of the rapid spread of the theory of evolution, the call to worship the God of heaven as Creator of all things implies that due heed is given to the sign of God’s creative works, the Sabbath of the Lord. God made the heaven and the earth and the Sabbath was created on the seventh day after six days of creation. (See Genesis 2:1-3) The Sabbath is a commemoration of the creative works of God. The Sabbath will be a point especially controverted in the closing crisis.
